2025.10.27 – Hurricane Melissa: Jamaica Braces for Impact

The Caribbean is on high alert as Hurricane Melissa, now a powerful Category 5 storm, approaches Jamaica with potentially devastating force.

Meteorological agencies report sustained winds exceeding 175 mph (≈280 kph), with the potential for torrential rainfall reaching 30–40 inches (≈75–100 cm) and storm surges up to 13 feet (≈4 m) along coastal regions. The slow-moving nature of the system means Jamaica may endure prolonged periods of extreme wind, flooding, and landslides—posing severe risks to life and infrastructure.

Officials have urged residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to move to higher ground or seek shelter immediately. Airports are now closed, transport networks are suspended, and emergency shelters have been activated across the island.

Sewa TT Stands Ready to Respond

In light of Hurricane Melissa’s impending landfall, Sewa International TT has begun coordinating with local and regional authorities to prepare an immediate humanitarian response once conditions permit.
